Miss K - I was a beauty queen.
It started as an invite to from my daughter to join Sioux Falls Boudoir VIPs. She has pictures done for a gift to her husband-to-be with Shalista. I found the images beautiful. I accepted the invite and would view the posts in the page. Then there it was... My daughter tagged me on a post. It was the 40+ model call. I qualified!! Turing 50 this summer.
I have been making positive changes for myself. Mentally and physically. Changes that were long overdue. I felt if I was to be chosen as a model, this could only be another positive experience. The first step was to fill out the application. To be chosen, I felt I needed to stand out... so I was myself. UNIQUE. I hit send and the rest is history.
I was a bit nervous about my shoot because I had an "accessory" that is not common place. I debated about this up to the date of my session but thought "What the hell". Made the decision!! This is about empowerment. We can promote being sexy among the women in this group, why not sexuality, as well. I wore my "jewelry" as anyone would wear earring, necklace or a bracelet :)
I do not wear a lot of makeup and I have embraced my grey hair and I believe I am an attractive woman. Having my hair and makeup done was such a wonderful time and I looked like myself. I was "dolled up" but still looked natural. LacyMae did a beautiful job.
The direction received by Shalista, during the shoot was so easy to follow. I didn't have to hit the perfect pose. Shalista got the angle that made it the perfect pose. The images will show this. On the front end, I told her of a scar I have on my stomach. She had asked if I wanted it to be covered up and I said no. What you see is what you get. All the scars I own have a story that have left a mark on me and my life. Share the stories. If me showing my scars will enable another person to embrace her imperfections, then I made a difference.
I was nervous and excited about seeing my images. Empowerment is what I felt when I saw them. Almost cried. I was a beauty queen.
I would do this experience time and time again. I have decided to make a photo shoot an annual treat to myself because I deserve it. I am continuing the positive changes in my life and cannot think of a better way to commemorate my accomplishments
